The Human Doormat
Smack - the clap of cheek and hand bounced off the wall of men standing in a circle with all eyes fixed on the target in the middle.
Smack - again the chilling sound of skin against skin bounced.
“Who was that? If you are who you are out there telling everyone you are, you could tell us.”
“Hit him again, we want to look like we did our job when he goes to trial tomorrow.”
The next day as they stood the beaten man in front of the crowd the people began to chant his name, but not in outrage at what was happening to the innocent man, oh no. They demanded his death. An innocent man put to death; a guilty man set free.

I Have a Purpose
I sat staring at the questions in front of me. The directions were clear: mark most wanted job to least wanted job.
A.) Solving complex math equation…. Defiantly not
B.) Disciplining co-workers…. Nope
C.) Designing computer programs…. Umm I couldn’t even figure out Wi-Fi for my lab top so no

God And...
How did the serpent deceive Eve? He told her she could have it all. That’s still the lie he uses today. You can have it all, God and… How does he do that? The serpent insisted the rule to not eat the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil was a silly rule. Eve could have a rich relationship with God AND the ability to do whatever she wanted. She was wrong and it cost her.

Saved?
I was up one night late and couldn’t sleep so I turned on the TV and stared watching this movie called “Panic Room.” It’s a thriller where these guys break into a house and a mom and her daughter run to the panic room. It’s meant to withstand any kind of attack but as Hollywood would have it, that’s the room the guys want in. So it’s a battle of the wills…The movie seemed to be sending a message that there is no true safe place – no true security.

Little Faith, Big Doubts
In the 'Case for Faith,' Lee Stroble tells about a conversation he had with a young man, Lynn Anderson, who was the son of committed Christians who were part of a small, tight-knit church. Despite these strong roots his doubts started early…Can you relate? Are your doubts right there in the front of your mind? Do you feel like a hypocrite, a fake? First, before you read anymore I want you to understand what faith isn't.

Surrendered
Right after the Lord saved me, I was reading a biography about George Muller. The man was dedicated to prayer. He had this rock-solid faith that you would see from one of the apostles. It was what I wanted my faith life to look like. So I read and read about him to see where this life of faith came from.

Christless Christianity
I’ve seen church youth groups who can claim that hundreds of kids attend their events. There are Christian schools that have thousands of graduates. Christian camps, conferences, and mission teams that have drawn thousands of young people. Yet if so many are involved in Christian activity, then why is there so little change in the world? If there is so much “Christianity,” then why is there so little reality?

Following the Crowd, to Where?
There is a special breed of rodent in Norway called the Norwegian rodent (you can tell it took a lot of imagination to come up with that name). They have one strange trait – they have one leader who directs them and every rodent follows his steps exactly.

Friend of God
If you're reading this, I would hope that it's because you want to have a friendship with Christ. That excites me, because that is my desire too, as well as God's. That's why He sent His Son. So how practically do we live in this friendship and maintain the relationship?

Bubble Boy
Did you ever see the movie “Bubble Boy”? It’s about this guy that has lived in a plastic bubble his whole life because he was allergic to everything. So he lived in a pure, undefiled, clean plastic bubble…Sometimes as a Christian I think that being put in a plastic bubble might be the only practical way for me to stay undefiled by the world.

Happiness or Holiness?
Blessed – Literally translated, it means, “Oh the happiness!” Not just happy for a minute or an hour, but happy in countless ways. We tend to look at happiness and holiness like they are at odds with each other.

When My Savior Says ‘Free’ but My Head Says ‘Guilty’
Have you been there, just going over and over again your sins and the times you messed up - people you’ve hurt or led astray because of your sin? And now you are at a place where Satan has fed you the lie that you are the only Christian struggling with sin.

My Modern Day Pharaoh
…It can seem like a miss step when adversity strikes, can’t it? Can you hear yourself complaining about someone in your life who is making life unreasonable and hard? Do you find yourself arguing with the Lord that you could do your Christian duty so much better if only she or he would leave you alone?

When Actions Speak
I was reading a Max Lucado book the other day and its last chapter challenged me to a different kind of thinking. In this last chapter, I want to present the same sort of challenge to you. It has to do with one of the Ten Commandments.

What they are
saying
"Parents, I would
encourage you to make this a gift for your teens, I am!
These devotionals are filled with scripture and the content of a
seasoned
Christian author and yet have a breath of youth that will encourage the
heart!
What I love most about Mary’s devotionals is she is living it! "
- Pastor Johnny
Touchet
"With wisdom far beyond her years, Mary
McKenzie exposes the elements of
life that stand between us and the abundant life God has planned for us.
Her
words,"If it's a weight, it needs to go," led me to consider and issue
in my own
life. She's right...it doesn't have to be a sin to be a weight. For me,
it was a
struggle within my own family that was weighing me down. Eight simple
words, and
yet those words, spoken from the heart of a teenage girl, confirmed the
truth
God had been whispering in my ear. Thank you, God."
